Circuit, Hardware, and Nano-Material System Research
SLAC Microelectronic’s system-level research work connects several aspects of computing. Computing systems research focuses on the exploration, both experimentally and theoretically, of circuits, hardware, as well as nano-materials, and devices. This system-level design also encompasses the development of energy-efficient algorithms and computing architecture.
Nano-Systems Research
Systems research exploring nano-materials and nano-devices includes system-level modeling and analysis. Using calibrated compact models of heterogeneous technologies and small-scale experimental demonstrations, researchers can learn the challenges and potential benefits of nano-systems and the possible new architectures needed to support them.
Hardware Prototyping
In addition to detailed analyses to understand new systems benefits, fabricating large-scale hardware prototypes is a critical research step. Hardware prototypes demonstrate the feasibility of new technologies while simultaneously providing experimental opportunities.
